Polyphasic Sleep (aka Who Needs Sleep?)

Posted on August 22, 2012      by Handy Andy Pandy

The way I've been feeling lately can best be summed up by the photo I shot above. I normally drink a minimum of 6 coffees a day (often more) and even when I get 6-8 hours sleep a night I just can't seem to function until at least 2 coffees and 2-3 hours time since waking. Half the time I walk around in a "mind fog". Every afternoon I get the "afternoon blues"; I lose energy and sometimes I even need a nap. Nighttime rolls around and my energy is still fairly low, until I crash into bed, only to be woken by that horrible alarm. Repeat, repeat, repeat. I know I'm not alone in feeling like this. Well,...

Levitation, Haircuts and Strange Concepts

This week has been a pretty good week for me photography-wise, so I thought I'd share some of my excitement in blog form. Yay! But first, an important announcement: I've just been given a haircut by my lovely girlfriend. To be honest, I'm surprised this hasn't been on the news. Actually now that I think about it, it probably has been but I threw my TV out the window due to the piss-poor coverage of the olympics over here in Australia so I can't watch the news :( Anyway, here's a photo of me mid-shear I mean mid-haircut: Needless to say I look sexy as hell now, my hair all short like the army...

It’s Not About the Numbers (It’s About the Photography)

Posted on August 7, 2012      by Handy Andy Pandy

I recently did a set of photos for a Geocaching website called It's Not About the Numbers. The link is here: http://www.notaboutthenumbers.com/2012/08/07/photo-essay-xtremely-addicted/ Not sure what Geocaching is? This might help! I was given free-reign with it and could come up with any idea I wanted. I thought long and hard, and eventually my girlfriend and I decided to do "Xtreme Caching", a more extreme version of the regular activity, "Geocaching". It was very tongue-in-cheek, and as you read the article try and imagine Bear Grylls is talking. It was basically a great excuse to scream...

Geocaching

Ever heard of "Geocaching"? Maybe you're a cool kid and you have, but until a couple of days ago I'd never heard of this life-changing, adrenaline-fueled adventurous adventure. Then, one fateful day, I heard about it on the radio and my entire world changed. Everything I ever thought I knew about the universe was wrong. So, what the eff is Geocaching? To save me explaining, I'm going to directly pull the definition from Wikipedia, which has the added benefit of making me sound well-researched and academic and all that exciting stuff. My friend Wiki says: Geocaching is an outdoor sporting activity...

Crazy Train

Posted on May 23, 2012      by Handy Andy Pandy

So the other day my girlfriend and I were going for a rather boring trip to the city (warm sunny Melbourne) and we were waiting at the train station. Nothing interesting going on. When suddenly... A wild crazy woman appears! This intelligent individual decided she super-urgently needed a cigarette. Oh no, she was all out! What to do? Well, what would any rational, normal person do? They'd run across the train tracks to ask people on the other side if they could bum a cigarette! Duh. Luckily a knight in shining armour was there to rescue this maiden princess from the evil clutches of cigarette-withdrawal: And...

Meet Timothy the Pine Cone!

You know those people who don't have any kids so they overcompensate by having like 35.4 cats? Those sad, sad people that we call crAzY? Ostricized by the rest of society? Destined to live lonely sad lives until one day they pass away and nobody even notices? April 9th, 2012 marks the day my girlfriend and I became those people. "BUT ANDY WHAT ARE U ON ABOUT LOL!?! YOU MAKE NO SENSE IDIOT!" Woah, that's pretty bad language. Calm your farm, mate. I suppose I should start from the beginning... My girlfriend Rani and I were visiting the majestic Werribee Mansion in Melbourne, Australia....

Bokeh City

Welcome to Bokeh City. Lately I've been inspired by a lot of artwork and paintings I've seen and I wanted to try a little "drawing" myself. Only problem is I have the drawing skills of a third nipple :( Luckily, I'm not absolutely terrible with Photoshop so I had a play around with a few images I took of the streets near my house. I had multiple photos to work with; one with everything in focus and a few with different areas out of focus (to create the bokeh circles). I combined them in Photoshop, darkening and brightening certain areas until I was happy with things. I hand-painted the green/purple...

I Like to Play with Myself

I Like to Play with Myself Hah! Bet you expected something else given the title, didn't you? Dirty dirty mind. Multiple photos combined together in photoshop. Taken at Williamstown, Melbourne Australia. This was an absolute nightmare to Photoshop, taking around 5 hours in total. It was made worse by the fact the moving cloud cover meant every image had a different brightness. I guess it turned out ok in the end.
